Post-doctoral fellow in the domain of Molecular Biology, University of Antwerp Belgium

Belgium Post-doctoral fellow in the domain of Molecular Biology, University of Antwerp
In the context of an interdisciplinary systems-biology research project on the regulation of leaf growth in Arabidopsis thaliana, the following position is available within the departments of Biology and Mathematics/Informatics of the University of Antwerp:

1 Post-doctoral fellowship in the domain of Molecular Biology,
The research aims to build a mechanistic understanding of the regulation of leaf growth in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. In the experimental groups the work focuses on the growth regulator auxin and its interaction with the growth processes cell division and expansion. This work is supported by the development of computer simulation models in the mathematical groups, in which experimental treatments are simulated to make predictions that can be verified experimentally. The combination of experimental and computational expertise will lead to a greater depth of our understanding of the regulation of growth regulation in plants.
Job description:

* You perform molecular and cell biological research into the interaction between auxin, cell division and cell expansion during the growth of the leaves of Arabidopsis thaliana. The work is supported by expertise from the experimental research group “Molecular Plant Physiology and Biotechnology” in the field of cell cycle regulation and kinematic analysis of growth (http://www.ua.ac.be/mpb) and the research group “Planth Growth and Development” in the field of hormonal regulation and cell expansion (webh01.ua.ac.be/fymo).
* You supervise three PhD students that specialize in one of the three subtopics and you collaborate closely with the Post-Doctoral fellow that is to be appointed in the Computational Science to develop simulation models.
* You participate in the teaching and research support within the department of Biology. This entails limited involvement in the practical courses and the guidance of BSc and MSc projects.
* You apply for external funding in the context of this research project.
Profile:
* Candidates need to have finished their PhD in Developmental Molecular Biology of Plants before the start of their employment.
* A good understanding of mathematics and informatics is an advantage.
* Your teaching and research qualities are in line with the requirements of the University of Antwerp
* You are prepared to conduct your work in the context of a multidisciplinary team.
We offer:
* A Post-Doctoral Fellowship for a period of 3 years
* Starting date: preferentially October 1st, 2011
